Winifred Abadie Orr's Obituary
Winifred Abadie Orr, age 81, of Covington, LA entered the arms of our Lord on September 16, 2023 surrounded by her family at her home in Covington, LA. She was born on September 3, 1942 in New Orleans, LA to Richard Anthony Abadie, Sr. and Clara Schexnaydre Abadie.
In the 81 years she graced our presence, she was known by many names- Mom, Granny, Dragon, but mostly just Winnie. Whether dancing to Fats Domino with her beloved husband, Jimmy “James, Jr.”, playing with her 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren or traveling the world with her family, Winnie’s feet never stayed in one place for very long. When she wasn’t jet-setting off to Europe, she could be found in the nearest Catholic church. When Winnie prayed for you, miracles happened. We’re still not sure how. Her faith and insatiable wanderlust were rivaled only by her love for her family- a love that anyone lucky enough to meet her could not possibly deny. She somehow managed to forge special relationships with each individual member of her family that led us each to believe we were her favorite. The truth is that she loved all of us equally, openly, and with a vigor that will carry us through the coming days without her. She was a force to be reckoned with, even a lengthy illness couldn’t slow her down. The dust never settled on her suitcase or her rosary beads.
We will miss her sense of humor, her passion for life and her warm hugs, but she left a legacy so bright that even her loss can’t possibly dim it.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard, Sr., her mother, Clara, and her brother, Gaston (along with his wife Roslyn and daughter Julie). She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, James Horace Orr, Jr., children: Dana Zibilich (Ray) of Viera, FL, Jamie Romage (Clarence) of Covington, LA, and James Horace Orr, III (Cvijeta) of Oviedo, FL, her grandchildren, Brittany Robert (Bryan), Brooke Oglesby (Chris), Raymond Zibilich, Claire Sharp (Stevie), Elise Williams (Julian), Trey Romage (Jeanne), Hayley Clevenger (Trevor), Aleena Orr, Addison Orr, Kelly Zibilich, and Annalise Orr, 11 great-grandchildren, her siblings, Richard Abadie, Jr., Phyllis McEvoy (Pat), Daryl Abadie (Susan), and Alfred Abadie.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Mass at St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 E. 19th Ave., Covington, LA 70433 on Monday, September 25, 2023 at 12:00 Noon with visitation from 10:00 AM until Mass time. Interment will follow the service at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Covington, LA. In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to St. Joseph Abbey, St. Benedict, LA, www.saintjosephabbey.com/donate.
