Washington Marshall's Obituary
Washington Marshall, 68, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge.
He was a Retired administrator, faculty member and alumnus of the Southern University Law Center. Professor Marshall joined the Law Center faculty in 1975 and retired in 2007. “Washington Marshall dedicated his life to the Southern University Law Center; even in retirement he kept in touch and also served as an adjunct professor”. He served as vice chancellor from 1985 to 1993 and as interim chancellor in 2002.
A native of Mandeville, Louisiana, Marshall was a 1967 graduate of Southern University, where he earned magna cum laude honors, and was a 1971 cum laude graduate of the Law Center. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, served 1962-1966.
He began his legal career as an attorney for the Office of the General Counsel for the Federal Aviation Administration, from 1971-1973, and served as a trial attorney for the Office of the General Counsel for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Washington, D.C., from 1973-1975.
He is survived by his son Donald C. Marshall and wife Sherie of Baton Rouge; three granddaughters: Ashley, Paris and Mia Marshall; two sisters, Delores Edgerson and husband Lawrence of Mandeville and Alice Flowers of Georgia; one brother, Oscar Cecil Marshall; three nephews: David Edgerson and wife Robbie of Mandeville, Shannon Edgerson of Mandeville and Ricky Marshall and wife Shannon of Florida; one uncle, Cesar Richardson; four aunts: Edna Ruth Richardson, Iretha Richardson, Pat Booker, and Martha McDonald and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother Roberta Richardson and father Eliga Marshall. The pallbearers for the service will be Ricky Marshall, David Edgerson, Shannon Edgerson, Cecil Marshall, Lance Baham and Brian Baham.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc., 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 11:00 AM.
Visitation from 9:00 AM until service time.
Interment in Mandeville Cemetery, Mandeville, LA.
