Thomas Garcia, a kind-hearted and devoted husband, father, and respected professional in the oil and gas industry, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 29th. He was 72 years old.
Born in Beeville, Texas, Thomas lived a life rooted in humility, strength, and compassion. He spent much of his early life in Houston before settling in Covington, Louisiana, where he lived for the last 29 years. A man who never met a stranger, Thomas embodied warmth, integrity, and quiet strength. His calm demeanor, respect for others, and unwavering commitment to his family earned him love and admiration from all who knew him.
Thomas is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Sylvia Garcia; cherished children, Michelle Garcia and Jerard Garcia; loving sister, Anita (Joel) Luna of Rosenberg and two loyal dogs, Scandal and T-Bell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon Garcia and Leonor Cavazos Garcia.
A man of routine and deep affection, Thomas called his daughter Michelle every morning to check on her. He shared a special bond with his son Jerard, enjoying wrestling, playing catch, pitching baseball, and teaching Jerard life skills, including vehicle maintenance and household projects.
Thomas loved taking his wife to movies and treasured family dinners at restaurants celebrating birthdays, Mother's Day, and anniversaries, ensuring his family always felt cherished.
Thomas had the privilege of working alongside his daughter at Shell, cherishing their daily commute from Covington to New Orleans and the time spent talking and laughing together.
Professionally, Thomas dedicated over 50 years to the offshore oil and gas industry, providing leadership and mentorship on world-class projects in the Gulf of Mexico. For 31 years, he worked with UP Professional Solutions, recently supporting Shell’s Brownfield facilities and commissioning efforts. His expertise and steady leadership earned deep respect from colleagues.
Thomas began his career at Bee County Junior College with an A.A.S. in Industrial and Product Design. His professional career included esteemed organizations like Brown & Root, HIE, CBS Engineering, and Shell International Exploration and Production.
At home, Thomas found joy tending the grill, mastering brisket, and ensuring everyone was well-fed and well-loved. Family was his center, evident in every action, word, and gesture. He stayed connected with daily calls and texts to his aunts, cousins, and neighborhood friends, and was deeply loved by his extended family and numerous friends.
To know Thomas was to experience true grace. He never raised his voice, sought the spotlight, or hesitated to lend a hand. His life exemplified gentleness, devotion, and enduring love.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Research Institute (CRI), designating pancreatic cancer research.
