Steven James Johnson's Obituary
Steven James Johnson passed away peacefully at his home of 44 years in Covington, Louisiana on Monday, June 24, 2024, at the age of 78.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Julie Ward Johnson; his 3 children, Steven Ross Johnson (Daniela), Lane Merrill Johnson (Kari) and Colleen Johnson Horton (Phillip). He was known as ‘Pop’ by his 8 grandchildren: Paige, Avery, Kellen, Luke, Benjamin, Juliet, Ross and John Thomas.
He is preceded in death by his eldest son, Brian Ward Johnson, his mother Virginia McKenna Johnson and his father, Alfred Merrill Johnson. Steve was born on September 6, 1945, in St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from Glenbard High School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, in 1963. He proceeded to serve honorably in the United States Air Force. Steve is a decorated Vietnam War Veteran flying more than 120 combat missions over Southeast Asia in his capacity as a Radio Operator. Thereafter, while on a Temporary Duty Assignment to Eglin Air Force Base in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, he met the love of his life, Julie Ann Ward. After being honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in December of 1969, Steve and Julie were married on June 20, 1970, while Steve was enrolled at the University of Illinois, Circle Campus, in Chicago, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in 1972.
After graduation, Steve was hired by Ernst & Ernst Public Accounting Firm in New Orleans, Louisiana. He went on to become a Certified Public Accountant in 1974 and shortly thereafter started his own Tax & Accounting Firm that would later become Johnson Financial, LLC., currently owned and operated by his 2 surviving sons. Steve retired in 2016 and was able to devote his time to his many interests and hobbies. Steve had an immense love and devotion to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his family, his country, and last, but CERTAINLY not least, wildlife and, specifically, his many pets.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM at The Chapel at First Baptist Church of Covington, 16054 Murphy Road, Covington, Louisiana, with visitation beginning at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, 2280 West 21st Avenue, Covington, Louisiana.
