Stanley Eugene Hurstell Sr.'s Obituary
Stanley Eugene Hurstell, Sr. passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024. He was born in New Orleans, LA on July 17, 1929.
He is survived by his loving sons, James Gerard Hurstell and David Michael Hurstell (Theresa); his grandchildren, Stephanie, Scott, and Alexis, and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, and nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Lilmar Pendergast Hurstell; one son, Stanley Eugene Hurstell, Jr.; his parents Frank A. Hurstell and Mercedes S. Hurstell; brothers Frank and Malcolm (Mack) and sister, Audrey.
Stanley graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1945; attended and graduated from Louisiana State University (LSU) in 1950 with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and then a Master’s degree in Music Education in 1952. He then joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and was assigned to the 745th Air Force Band, Strategic Air Command (SAC), stationed at Barksdale AFB. He was Honorably Discharged in 1957. Stanley then began a career spanning 54 years as an instrumental and vocal music educator, teaching at the following schools and academies; Catholic High School, Greenwood High School, Port Sulfur High School, Chalmette Junior High School, Chalmette High School, St. Robert Elementary School, River Oaks Academy, Pass Christian High School, Northshore High School, and Loyola University of New Orleans. Stanley has had the privilege of sharing his love of music with multiple generations of students, many of which still enjoy playing and performing today.
Stanley enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow-up and spending time with his great-grandchildren.
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington LA 70433 on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM with visitation on Thursday beginning at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery #3.
