Stanley Eugene Hurstell, Sr. passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024. He was born in New Orleans, LA on July 17, 1929. He is survived by his loving sons, James Gerard Hurstell and David Michael Hurstell (Theresa); his grandchi Read Obituary
I had the privilege of having Mr. Hurstell as my music director for 5 years. Through his leadership, Chalmette High had one of the best bands in the greater New Orleans area. We won the best marching band trophy countless times in various parades. My condolences to his family.
Condolences to the family of Mr. Hurstell, l was a beneficiary of his brilliant ability to not only teach band in high school; but to inspire his students to understand and appreciate the art of music. He taught us to want to play every note perfectly. Under his direction, the students believed that we were actually becoming real musicians. It was my honor to be in the presence of such a man. Thanks again Mr. Hurstell.
The Hurstell family of musicians touched both my brother Mike and I. Mr Hurstell led Mike in Junior High. James and I played musical instruments in front of the Carolyn Park PTA. We performed from ‘Chicago’ the “Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon”. Thanks for the memories. Paul Coles
My love and underdtanding of music was a seed planted and nourished by this man. He will always be remembered whenever a song fills my heart or makes my head bob like a pigeon. Rest In Peace Mr. Hurstell (preferably without a beginners drum section) - the one and only Leader of the Band ❤️🎼
I did my student teaching with Mr. Hurstell in 1975 just after his heart attack. While I was student teaching he had another heat attack and it was his teaching techniques that allowed me to continue to teach his classes and to organize a Christmas concert. I taught 34 years and it was because of the teaching techniques that I learned from Mr. Hurstell that my band programs were so successful. Such a kind, knowledgeable and talented man. Heaven has gained one of the best! Rest peacefully in the arms of our Savior.
Condolences to Mr. Stan’s family. Such a talented man who loved to share his music with those around him. He shared so many times to the residents, guests and employees at The Windsor. Such a gem, he will be missed.
