Stanley Irwin Goldberg's Obituary
Stanley Irwin Goldberg passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, at the age of 96. He was born in New York, New York, borough of Bronx, on April 12, 1930, to Edward and Belle Craner Goldberg. He is the stepson of Pearl Heneson Goldberg. He is the grandson of William and Golda Miller Goldberg of Russia as well as Louis and Fanny Craner of Romania.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Shangraw Robbert; former wife, Irene Prechter; sons, Andrew (Dorothy Major) and Adam (Cammy), daughter, Beth; stepsons, Brad and Jeff Robbert; grandchildren, Lindsay Spencer, Jacob (Reilly), Eric (Sharon), Sydney, Alex, Joshua (Amanda), Jessica (Rene Dauterive III), and Julia; step-grandchildren, Allison and Daniel Robbert; great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Adeline, Graham, Rene IV, and Julien; half-brother, William (Peggy); half-sister, Ina Gail (Robert Vanderhilst); and first cousins, John Craner (Muriel) and Barbara Craner Weinthall.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Ruth Stone Goldberg.
Stan graduated from Forest Park High School in Baltimore, MD. He went on to earn a B.S. degree in chemistry from the University of Maryland at College Park, paying his tuition with an athletic scholarship for pole vaulting. He then took a Ph.D. in chemistry from Indiana University.
He served in active duty with the U.S. Air Force for two years, working as a project scientist in the Air Materials Command, and then served in the Air Force Reserves for thirteen years, leaving with the rank of captain.
He taught organic chemistry at the University of South Carolina for eleven years, and at the University of New Orleans for thirty-one years, retiring in 2002 as a professor emeritus. During this time, he conducted research, published over one hundred research articles, and mentored numerous doctoral candidates.
Following retirement, Stan began the study of watercolor art under the tutelage of Larry Casso at the Baton Rouge Fine Arts Academy. His artwork was juried into the National River Roads Show of the Art Guild of Louisiana twice and he was awarded numerous prizes including a Best of Show during Lacombe Art Guild biannual shows. He continued to paint and study with Chryl Casso Corizzo throughout his 95th year.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 2:00 PM with visitation from 12:00 PM until service time. Interment will take place following the service.
