Shirley McCain Knight's Obituary
Shirley McCain Knight passed away on December 31, 2022, in Covington, LA, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Tylertown, MS, on October 8, 1938 to John Leslie McCain and Louella Crain McCain.
She is survived by her adoring children Shirley Lenora Knight-Togstad (Jayson) and Celeste Jonella Knight. She was the proud grandmother to grandson Wesley Togstad.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, John Wesley Knight, her parents John and Louella McCain, and her brother, John Larry McCain. She will be dearly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends.
She attended Southeastern Louisiana University where she acquired her Bachelors and Masters Degree in education. She was a teacher and educational diagnostician in St. Tammany Parish.
Shirley grew up in the Carson Springs Baptist Church family and after moving to Covington she became a member of First Baptist Church Covington. She was loving, compassionate, and most of all a very caring person to all. Her true passion was spending time with her loving family and friends and traveling. She thoroughly enjoyed her many international trips with her daughter Jonella to Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Australia, Canada and Mexico. She also traveled extensively throughout the United States. She loved just going for rides to the country or to the Gulf Coast. She had a special bond with her grandson Wesley and cherished every moment she spent with him. Shirley will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at E. J Fielding Funeral Home 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington Louisiana on Monday, January 9, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Carson Springs Baptist Church in Sandy Hook, MS at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow at the Carson Springs cemetery.
