I'm saddened to learn of Ms. Shirley's passing. My fondest memory of her was during the bakery days in Covington. Feeling the burden and strains of life I walked into the bakery and ordered a cake so I could go home and drown my sorrow in her great cake. She asked if I wanted anything written on it. I said "NO". Somehow she sensed my mood and produced a cake with a huge smiley face that said "Hsve A Great Day". I've never forgotten that and I still and will forever be reminded of her when I see a smiley face. She always had a smile for everyone!

Lynn, We were so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. We were out of town and only learned of her death posting another condolence message. We have fond memories of her in her bakery on Columbia St., at the hospital making everyone smile when she walked in your room.
She was a lovely lady and missed by many of us.

I was sorry to see the notice of your mother's death in the paper a few days ago, and wish to extend my sympathy and let you know that I have prayed for her and for all of you, and will have Fr. Scott offer a Mass for the repose of her soul. I remember her from her good work at SSA (Lynn, I do remember you, too.) You can all take much consolation in the fact that she was a good and generous women. I will be sending Sr. Juanita a copy of the notice, and know she will also be praying for all of you. To the family of Mrs. Falkenstein, I only knew your Mom when she operated the Covington Bakery during the '70's-'80's, but because my children loved the sweets from that bakery ONLY, we visited many times. I admired her greatly, always so friendly, smiling, seeming to truly love the work and enjoying my little ones so much. Sorry to hear Ms. falkenstein passed away. I first met her when she owned the Covington Bakery. I can honest say I have not eaten another King Cake that ever compared to falkenstein's Bakery.
Many years later, I had the honor to work with her at Highland Park Hospital where I was employed...it was an honor to have her as part of the hospital's operations team. God bless you, Shirley!!!
