Our family moved to Sandy Hook, MS IN 1974 just across the LA. line. We meet so many wonderful people at the church. The Crosby family was one of the first to befriend us. They told us to come to their garden and get fresh vegetables. The Crosby’s, Williams, Askews & Boutwells all became such dear friends to us. Shan became like one of my daughters because she was at our house or Gloria was at her house. All of the kids loved to play together on Williams Hill. I remember one incident where they were running the cane mill. A mule would pull the wheel to press the cane juice out. All the kids wanted to ride the mule. Gloria was riding it and Shan thought it should be her turn. She reached up and yanked Gloria skirt......it was a wrap around and just came off leaving Gloria exposed in her underwear in front of the men. Gloria was so mad at Shan but later they became the best of friends. We always laughed about that memory. We loved Shan and her whole family dearly. We moved back to NC but have kept in touch over all these years and visited as often as we could. When we come now we will miss Shan’s bear hugs and her crooked smile. We will miss you my friend Shan.
