Sam Sumwalt's Obituary
Sam Sumwalt, age 73, of Covington, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. He was born on April 16, 1951, in Greenfield, Indiana to Hazel and Donald Sumwalt.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Lacey Sumwalt; daughter, Samantha Sumwalt Stephenson, D.V.M., and her husband Nate of St. Augustine, Florida; grandchildren, Zach, Hannah, Logan, and Aiden Stephenson; and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Hazel Sumwalt.
Sam was a graduate of North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. He became a leader in real estate sales while employed by Thorsen Real Estate Company in Chicago, Illinois. He was eventually sent by Coldwell-Banker to open an office in Kenner, Louisiana. After successfully building that office, facing a return to the Chicago area, Sam chose to leave real estate and enter the personal computers industry. He joined Entre Computer Center and eventually owned Entre’s presence in Monroe and Shreveport, Louisiana.
Sam served 39 years in the United States Navy including 10 years of active duty and 29 years as a reservist. He was one of the first 9,000 reservists to be called to Operation Desert Storm. He was stationed in Naples, Italy.
A private family memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
