Rest in Peace, Shipmate.
I am so saddened by the loss of one of finest men and officers with whom I am acquainted. Always the consummate gentlemen, he served as a mentor and friend to so many of us. Respected, admired, loved, and a born leader. I know he will be greatly missed by his family and so many friends. He was an extraordinary military officer who was given some of the most complex problems because of his ability to manage projects and teams. Loved working for and with him. Amazing human being. Great loss for humanity.
I knew Sam when he was a student at North Central college. He was first rate person In every way. I never doubted for a moment that he would have a successful life. Wonderful personality. Wonderful student worker in the food service and always at the top of his game. My most heartfelt sympathy to his wife especially and to all of his extended family. Rip. Sam
You were the best in every way.

Rest In Peace Shipmate.
Sam was the beloved uncle of two of my children and a man I will forever remember as one of my extended family. His dedication to family and country was unwavering. We will remember Cheryl, Samantha and all Sam’s family in our prayers. 🙏❤️. Lois and Ted Bowlus and family.
My Condolences to the Sumwalt family. Sam was a great shipmate, Officer and friend. He always had a quick smile, a great handshake and pleasant demeanor. You just felt good being around him. He will be missed. Fair winds and following seas shipmate. May God be with you and hold your hand on your journey.
I had the privilege of knowing Captain Sam Sumwalt at Commander Navy Forces Command. His professionalism, deep knowledge of IT and cybersecurity, and unwavering willingness to help were truly inspiring. Even during our brief time working together in the private sector, he remained the same dedicated and honorable individual. He will be deeply missed. May God bless him and his family, and grant him eternal rest in Jesus’ name.
Sam was an honest, kind hard-working individual. During my time working with him, he was always loyal to his employees and customers. He was a collaborative manager who valued input to solving problems. He loved his country and was proud to have served it. He regularly shared how proud he was of his daughter Son-in-Law and his Grandchildren. His trips to meet or visit family were always a highlight for him. It was a pleasure to have known and worked with him.
Sam was an exceptional leader and a remarkable team builder. I am truly proud to have had the opportunity to work with him in support of NASA's mission, witnessing his dedication and vision firsthand. This photo from his retirement celebration and luncheon with senior staff at SaiTech serves as a reminder of the respect and admiration he earned from everyone around him. With a heavy heart, I know his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. My sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones.
