Melanie And Steve Podowitz
Steve and I wish we could be at the service today to honor a man who was truly one of a kind. He and Mary were at our wedding and such an important part of our lives in Norcross during such a happy time. We were all such dear friends during the births of little Roy, Audrey and Hilary and have remained in touch even after Mary and Roy parted ways and he rebuilt his life in Lousiana. We were grateful to have hosted Roy and Cindy for brunch a few years ago and have kept in touch as his health has faltered.
The most enduring thing about Roy was his eternal optimism, which I'm sure served him well as he battled mounting health problems in the last ten years. Even after his recent surgery, he was confident he would be able to relearn how to walk and be back on his feet to enjoy his beloved children and grandchildren. Even his family he didn't see or hear from often were always described with such pride and remained a treasured part of his conversations.
No doubt Roy will be entertaining angels and working up a way to improve things around those pearly gates. Imperfect and human as he was, Roy had a way of making us all believe that brighter times were just around the corner. We somehow always felt better and more capable when he was around. Against all odds, he was confident in his visions, so we were as well. I'm sure he'll make the afterlife a more interesting and hospitable place to spend eternity.
Here's to a singularly charming dreamer who brought so much to so many -- and will certainly never be forgotten. Love and a giant cyber hug to you all as you put to rest a giant of a man we were so blessed to know and love.
