R.L. (Willie) Williams of Mandeville, LA on Monday April 16, 2007 at the age of 87.
Beloved husband of 65 years to Bertha Abbott Williams and son of the late R.L. and Sissili Williams of Gorman, TX. Beloved father of Wesley L. Williams of New Orleans, LA, Jane and husband Webb Jay of New Orleans, LA and Robert Keith Williams and wife Debbie of Diamondhead, MS. Grandfather of Roger Williams, James Jay, William Jay, Meghan Williams, Victoria Williams and the late Kristi Jay Grounds. Also survived by 9 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Williams was born in Gorman, TX and graduated from Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX with a degree in Mechanical Engineering before going to work with Freeport McMoran in Port Sulphur, LA where he was President of the Freeport Sulphur Division and Vice President of Freeport McMoran. He lived in Australia for two years setting up the Freeport Indonesia Gold and Copper mining project before returning to New Orleans, LA and retiring in 1985 after 44 years. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served during WWII, a member of the Louisiana Engineering Society, he was very active in the Parkinson Support Group of Mandeville, LA where he lived for the past 21 years.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 4375 Hwy 22, Mandeville, LA on Wednesday April 18, 2007 at 1:00 PM. Visitation at the church from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
