Riley Gene Campbell's Obituary
Riley Gene Campbell, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on September 15, 1937, Riley lived a full and generous life marked by unwavering integrity, deep family devotion, and a warm, outgoing spirit that touched everyone he met.
Riley was preceded in death by his parents, Victor Campbell Sr. and Mattie Campbell, his sister Kathryn Evelyn Campbell, and his grandson Michael Millard. Their memory remained an enduring presence throughout his life.
Riley is survived by his beloved wife, Frances Campbell, with whom he had recently celebrated 52 years of marriage, a partnership rooted in affection, companionship, and shared adventures. The two married in Baltimore on December 28, 1973, and built a life enriched by family, friendship, and travel.
He is also survived by his daughters Sandy Herman, Patti Ann Mehl, and Sharon Maxwell; his brother Victor Campbell Jr.; his four grandchildren; and his stepsons Shelton Shugar and Benjamin Shugar, all of whom carry forward his legacy of kindness, humor, and steady support.
Riley proudly served six years in the Air National Guard, demonstrating the same sense of responsibility and dedication that he brought to every facet of his life. Professionally, he spent most of his career as a mechanical engineering project manager, contributing to the construction of hospitals and medical facilities—work that improved the lives of countless people and gave him great pride.
Known for his sociable nature, Riley cultivated friendships wherever he went. He loved gathering with friends and family, sharing stories, laughter, and meals. He also enjoyed traveling—most often by car—crisscrossing the United States with Frances and ultimately visiting nearly every state. These road trips were among his favorite adventures, filled with curiosity, conversation, and the joy of discovering new places.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
