My Uncle Riley was such a sweet, funny and smart guy. There was never a time when I saw him down or negative. He spread good humor and joy wherever he went. But most of all, what I remember about Uncle Rile is the abiding love he and my father, Victor Campbell, Jr., had for each other. Theirs was a mutual admiration society for the ages. Any time they were together, we kids knew that we would be regaled with very colorful and entertaining stories from their childhoods growing up in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky and on a farm in Bel Air, Maryland, all delivered with that soft and comforting (to my ears) Kentucky "hillbilly" accent. I loved it. Uncle Riley Campbell has left a mark on our hearts that will never fade away and we are all better for having known him.
