Oscar Alonzo Wible Jr.'s Obituary
Oscar Alonzo “Big O” Wible, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the age of 77. Loving father of Tammy Wible Thornhill (Glyn), Claude Wible (Lisa) and Michael Wible (Abigail). Son of the late Geneva Livermore Wible Brandt(Leo) and Oscar Alonzo Wible, Sr. Brother of Judy Crespino(Don) and the late Dorothy Reggio(Jules) and Gene Brandt(Judy). Grandfather of Kayla Campagna Labat (Jordan), Michael Wible, Jr., Nicolas Wible and Olivia Wible. Great-grandfather of Jace Labat. Former husband of Claudia Wible. Partner of Gertrude “Trudy” Salisbury.
Oscar was a native of New Orleans and long time resident of St. Bernard. He was a graduate of Francis T. Nichols High School where he excelled in sports. Oscar served in the Louisiana National Guard and was the co-owner of Marine Splicing and Supply Co. in New Orleans. As a boy he played biddy basketball, then served as assistant coach for biddy basketball that lead to two national championships. He also coached several recreational basketball teams in St. Bernard. Oscar played on numerous softball teams, including T & S, Icewater and Tardo’s.
Oscar was a loving, kind giving man who never knew a stranger. He was generous with those who needed help. Oscar was a loving and supportive father to his children and to those he coached.
The family wants to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Forest Manor Nursing home and St. Catherine Hospice for their care of their father.
