Nicholas Joseph Newell's Obituary
Nicholas Joseph Newell, at the age of 29, passed away on June 2, 2026. He was born on July 25, 1996, in Metairie, Louisiana.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Amy and John Branson; his father, Michael Newell; and his son, Hayden Newell. He is also survived by his sister, Katherine Newell Evans (Wyatt Evans Jr.); his son’s mother, Amanda Hunteman; and many wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends.
Nick was a loving and devoted father, son, brother, and a great friend to many. Nick served in the Army National Guard for eight years, a service for which he took great pride. Nick will be remembered for his easygoing nature, warmth, bear hugs, impressive ability to fix literally ANYTHING, and his dad jokes. Nick truly saw the good in people, which he consistently demonstrated by welcoming and accepting everyone regardless of their background or current situation in life. He loved and cared for people deeply, and would always lend a helping hand or a listening ear to those who he thought needed it. Nick leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love for his son, Hayden. He spent his mornings and evenings before and after work caring for and playing with Hayden, and his weekends taking him to the park and doing just about anything and everything to make him laugh and smile. He could frequently be seen carrying a smiling Hayden on his broad shoulders, while he himself beamed with pride and love.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Nick may be made to one of the following: NAMI Southeast Louisiana (National Alliance on Mental Illness), STOPS (St. Tammany Outreach for the Prevention of Suicide), or the Wounded Warrior Project.
