Nancy Ann Stapleton's Obituary
Nancy Ann Stapleton passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at the age of 63 after a short illness. She was born in New Orleans, LA on May 5, 1959.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Madge Griffin Stapleton and her father, Sumner Ruggles Stapleton, Jr.
She is survived by her sisters Jacqueline Stapleton Stansberry and Peggy Stapleton (Joe) Oberthaler. In addition to numerous cousins, she leaves behind countless friends and coworkers. Nancy was a kind and gentle soul as well as a good friend to many.
After graduating from Riverdale High School in New Orleans, LA, Nancy's artistic interests brought her to LSU with the intention to study stained glass in a nationally known program created by Professor Paul Dufour. She was an invested and dedicated student who made many lifelong close friends and associates. She received her BFA (Bachelors in Fine Arts) degree inl983. After graduation, Nancy worked for several years in the commercial stained glass studios, which had flourished in the Baton Rouge area.
She pursued many facets of glass art work, but after a time Nancy became involved in numerous arts foundations and showed her leadership and management abilities to become president and founding member of the Louisiana Crafts Council and later director of the Baton Rouge Gallery where she remained for four years. Nancy was a native of New Orleans, LA and moved to Covington, LA in 2004 to live and care for her aging parents. She worked at this time making her glass art and working with designers at several home-furnishing companies.
A little known fact, Nancy did not want her obituary to read “In lieu of flowers” instead she said “I want flowers”.
