Mickie Ann Morano Hawkshead's Obituary
Mickie Ann Morano Hawkshead gave her all to fulfill the dreams of herself and family until she peacefully took the hand of our Lord in Heaven on August 24, 2024.
Mickie and her husband, Charles Hawkshead, were both native to New Orleans, Louisiana. Together they traveled the world to over 50 countries in their 49 years of marriage. They walked the path of Jesus in Jerusalem; the Great Wall of China and crossed the desert on camelback in Egypt. Chuck is comforted by Mickie’s place in Heaven, free of pain and worry. During a family trip, on a Wyoming Wagon Trail Adventure, Mickie was offered and accepted a position as an Administrative Assistant at Loyola University New Orleans, from where she retired after 25 years of service. Not only did this position provide support and opportunities for her daughters, Kimberly Hébert and Melody Restivo as they received their education, but Mickie also earned her bachelor's degree while working full time at the university.
Over the years, Mickie and Chuck visited Troy Hawkshead (stepson), wife, Mandy, and his family up North for many family celebrations and milestones. She was fortunate to spend time laughing and sharing memories with him when he came down to visit last month. Mickie’s son in laws, Leon Hébert (Kim) and Eddie Restivo (Melody), have been in the family for many years. She knew she could always count on them for help with home projects, for advice, or just for a good laugh. Mickie and Emile John Morano III (brother) have always placed a strong value on family. Together, they cared for their parents Emile John and Mildred Margaret Morano, braved Hurricane Katrina, and took the children and grandchildren on several adventures. Her grandchildren, Ellie, Anna, Ashley, and Luke Hawkshead; Kelsey, Isaac, and Macey Hébert; Jude, Nicolette (Byron Williams), Rhett (Jessica), Taylor, Caitlyn, and Cole Restivo could always count on their Grandma to be present for any special event from religious sacraments, sporting activities, and theater plays to Grandparents Days, Graduations, Homecomings, and Weddings to the birth of her great-grandchildren (Rendi, Rance, and Gio).
Mickie always had a full social calendar. She did not miss a reunion of her classmates from St Joseph Academy. She was involved in Girl Scouts, her community for Senior Learning events and luncheons as well as working at the voting polls for many years. Mickie was also an avid member of the Red Hat Society. If you could not find her at one of these events or with friends, you could find her in her garden. Mickie had an exceptional aptitude for gardening - a true green thumb, and she often found peace and happiness among the blossoms.
Mickie fought to the last minute to continue her adventures with friends and family. The professional and loving doctors and nurses at St. Tammany Parish Hospital ICU and Hospice Care supported her spirit and allowed her to retain her dignity throughout her stay. The family is deeply grateful.
