Michael H. Swords, Sr.'s Obituary
Michael Hurd Swords, Sr., age 54, life-long resident of Covington, LA died peacefully on Friday, February 13, 2015 from complications of leukemia. Mike was born on July 13, 1960 in Covington. After graduating from St. Paul’s High School, Mike enrolled and graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University.
Mike worked at the St. Tammany Parish DA’s office for almost 18 years where he made many lasting friends and assisted countless people in his position. He will be greatly missed. Mike was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed the outdoors whenever possible, as often as possible with several close friends who were like brothers. He was a gifted landscaper and had a talent for turning yards into beautiful gardens that people could enjoy. He loved his family and his son Michael was one of the most important people in his life. He was very proud of Michael’s accomplishments.
Mike is survived by his loving family: wife, Ruby Crawford Swords and son Michael Hurd Swords, Jr.; his parents, Cullom “Buster” Swords and Gayle Hurd Swords of Covington; three sisters, Stephanie Swords Fredericks, Kelly Swords, Wendy Swords Stouffer (Mark); and one brother, Cullom Swords (Lisa Thornburg); his parents-in-law, Curtis L. and Frances Carollo Crawford; siblings-in-law, Curtis R. Crawford (Mary), Terri Crawford Juge (Bobby) and Tina Crawford White (Bill). He was preceded in death by his sister, Erica Swords (2008) and brother-in-law, Wade M. Crawford (2014). Mike is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The memorial service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2015 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, 20370 Smith Rd. Covington, LA 70435 with a mass to follow at 12:00pm.
