Mary Ann Dykes' Obituary
Mary Ann Dykes passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the age of 65. Mary Ann was the daughter of the late Mary Virginia Dykes and Jesse Glynn Dykes. She was a sister to the late “Pete” Glynn Dykes, Melinda Dykes Overstreet and her husband, Steve Overstreet, and Randy Dykes and his wife, Michaelann Cotter Dykes. She was the Aunt to Caroline Dudley Bean and her husband Andrew Bean, Austin Overstreet, Andrew Dykes, Matthew Dykes, Peter Dykes, Jesse Dykes and Annaleigh Dykes. Mary Ann was also the Great Aunt to Harrison Bean and Virginia Bean.
Mary Ann was born in New Orleans, Louisiana but moved with her family to Mandeville at the age of 3. She graduated from St. Scholastica Academy in Covington, with Honors in 1970. She Attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She graduated from LSU with Honors in 1974 with a BS in Business. She continued her education over the years at Northern Arizona University, where she focused on Sculpture and Photography. She also attended Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver, Colorado, where she studied Illustration and Painting. She exhibited her paintings and sculptures across the United States. Mary Ann spent extensive time in the Southwest working with and studying herbs. She published several books on herbs, The Herb Book I and The Herb Book II. Mary Ann was a Certified Hypnotherapist and a Naturopathic Doctor.
Mary Ann’s true passion and dedication was focused on her Heartway Healing Centers that she founded 35 years ago. She was the director of several locations across the Southeast and Southwest States. Mary Ann brought together practioners that offered a holistic approach to healing. Mary Ann was a natural healing teacher who provided transformative Energy Work through meditation, hypnosis and visionary guidance. Mary Ann also created a nonprofit, Heartway Ministries to serve women and children at risk.
The family would like to thank all of Mary Ann’s friends, students and colleagues who surrounded her in the Heartway work for helping us at such a difficult time.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 6:00-9:00 pm at EJ Fielding Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington, La 70433.
The funeral services will be at 11:00am on February 22, 2018 at Christ Episcopal Chapel. 129 S New Hampshire St., Covington, La 70443. There will be a visitation time on Thursday at the church from 10:00 -11:00 am before the service.
Internment will be immediately following the service at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, 2280 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 and a reception will follow the internment at Christ Episcopal Parish Hall.
