Martha Mary Gotti Huval's Obituary
Martha Mary Gotti Huval, a native and lifelong resident of Folsom, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the age of 98. She was born on May 9, 1925.
She is survived by her children, David A. Huval, Christopher C. Huval (Noelle), Gerard J. Huval (Annette), Paul G. Huval (Alice) and Mary Huval Van Haelen (Josh); her 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Bessie Sharp Gotti and Charles A. Gotti; and siblings, Ella Gotti Bourgeois and William Gotti, and by her husband Joseph Sidney Huval.
Martha married Sidney on June 25, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Abbey, and lived in New Orleans for 2 years before settling back in her hometown of Folsom. It was there the two of them started a family and built a life that was nothing short of remarkable. Martha’s life was filled with love: love for her faith in God, family, friends and a continuous stream of self-sacrifice. Martha enjoyed being a parishioner of the St. John’s Catholic Church and was instrumental in bringing new parishioners to church. She had a love for playing cards; Rummy was her game of choice and she was known to make up her own rules as the game progressed just so she could win. She loved to travel and spent months in Virginia Beach with family, playing bingo, making friends everywhere she went and many trips to the casinos.
Martha’s home was filled with love and laughter. After raising her 5 beautiful children, her home was always filled with her grandchildren and other family members. It also gave comfort to many others who needed a safe place to land after a difficult fall. She had a way of making everyone feel loved and safe. To be loved by her was a beautiful blessing.
The family is thankful for the many caregivers who helped with Martha throughout the years at her home and in Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Huval may be made to Hospice of St. Tammany Parish Hospice or to the St. John the Baptist Church.
