Grandma Lou, I'm sure you know that I will miss you. You have been such a big part in Mom’s, Jaime’s and my life. I know that you were my great-grandma but it didn’t feel that way. I guess after you spend so much time with someone a bond forms that can’t be broken. I will hold dear the times Jamie and I would spend the night. I would always wake-up before him early and you would have the burners on the stove going to warm up the kitchen, having your coffee and reading the paper. Then you would make me breakfast. Not just any breakfast; the type they made in another time. Simple but delicious: eggs, bacon, and toast with orange juice. After breakfast was cooked, you would take the toast and make little bites to pick up and eat with a little egg and bacon.
I’ve been in the Military over 11 years and every time I come home I stayed with you, and every time you still made me breakfast the same way even though I’m a grown man and now married. Of course I loved the food, but the thing that I will hold dear is the intimate time I spent alone with you. While I ate you would tell me what you read in the paper and shared stories of the past. Boy how we laughed! I’m so sorry that I couldn’t be there but I know you understand why. I will miss you tremendously.
Ryan
