Lois Evarkiou Zeller's Obituary
After a giving and selfless life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and retired St. Tammany Parish teacher, Lois Evarkiou Zeller passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2024. She was a radiant spirit for generations of children on the Northshore and considered her years in the classroom with students among the many gifts and blessings in her bright life.
Mrs. Zeller was born Feb. 11, 1938. She spent her formative years in San Diego, prior to graduating from San Diego State University in education. She started her career living internationally and teaching students of soldiers on U.S. Army bases, and also taught in California, Hawaii and New Orleans before settling in Covington to raise her family several decades ago. She visited all 50 states, experiences she often integrated into her activities with local students.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Richard W. Zeller, her children Ricky Zeller and Renee Kenney Williams and her husband Kelly, as well as eight grandchildren: Katherine Zeller, Abigail Zeller, William Zeller, Jack Kenny, Kearsten Kenney, Noah Kenney, Sophie Williams, and Max Williams; and her brothers, Chuck Evarkiou and Steve Evarkiou.
Proud of her Greek heritage as the family matriarch, Mrs. Zeller was preceded in death by her parents, Avarakis Evarkiou and Joan Marie Valente Evarkiou.
She was strong in her faith as a member of the St. Peter’s Catholic Church community. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Zeller may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 E. 19th Avenue, Covington, LA 70433.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Ave., Covington LA, on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 11 AM with visitation beginning at 9 AM until service time.
