Reverend Lewis L. "Jake" Olmsted's Obituary
Reverend Lewis L. “Jake” Olmsted Retired passed away on Friday, December 4, 2009 at the age of 71 in Jefferson, Louisiana.
He is survived by his wife Sharon, of 53 years; sons, Daniel (wife Karen) of Mandeville and Donald of St. Louis; and granddaughters, Shari and Cassie; sisters, Grace Akins of Lawrenceville, GA and Patti Miller of Elk Grove, IL. Jake was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Ruth (Strang) and a brother, Fred.
Jake was born on April 13, 1938 in Ottawa, Illinois. Upon retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1975, Jake earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. He then received a Master of Divinity from Garret Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. In 2001, Jake entered into a retired relationship as an Elder with the Louisiana Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Upon retiring, he was active in the Kairos Prison Ministry. Of his two careers, Jake said the satisfaction of the first was that of serving his country, the rewards of the second are out of this world.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Timothy United Methodist Church, 335 Ashbury Dr., Mandeville, LA 70448 with visitation at church on Thursday beginning at 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.
