When I was in middle school, Mr. Roy showed me how to draw this ridiculous cartoonish native character, complete with a nose ring and chicken leg bone through the hair. It was really cool, so I re-drew it for a school art project and my art teacher liked it so much, she included it in the St. Bernard Parish art show. I didn’t think too much of it until my aunt called me later to say she saw my art project in the show. Every once in a while, I doodle that same character and always think of Mr. Roy.
