Judith Ann Hughes Krogsgard's Obituary
Judith Ann Hughes Krogsgard, at the age of 82, entered eternal rest peacefully on Saturday evening, July 22, 2023, at Heritage Manor of Mandeville surrounded by her loving family. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 9, 1940, to Edmund Flanigan Hughes and Dolores Anna Healy Hughes.
She is survived by her adoring children Kay Lynne Krogsgard and Lisa Ann Krogsgard Sowerwine (Jeff). Judy was the proud grandmother of Brittni Sowerwine Hawkins, Kyle Sowerwine, and Ainsley Sowerwine, and great grandmother of Raina Hawkins, Isabella Hawkins, and Cannen Hawkins, and aunt of Carol Champagne Pertuit (Joe). She was the sibling of Darrell Edmund Hughes (Lisa). Judy will be dearly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her loving husband Russell D. Krogsgard, her parents Edmund and Dolores Hughes, and her sister Janet Hughes Champagne.
A native of New Orleans, and proud resident of the Northshore for over 52 years, Judy graduated from Tulane with a bachelor’s degree in business and earned her master’s degree in music from Southeastern Louisiana University. In addition to decades of teaching private voice and piano students, she also taught music at Southeastern Louisiana University, St. Scholastica Academy and in St. Tammany Parish Public Schools.
Judy spent her life surrounded by music and used her beautiful God-given voice in praise to God as a member and soloist in many church choirs on the South and North shore. In her youth, she sang on the radio and in the famed Blue Room at the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans. She was also a soloist in a performance of Handel’s Messiah, where she met her beloved Russell. Judy created many memorable moments through onstage performances, both while in school and at Playmakers and Mandeville Playhouse community theatres, making many lifelong friends. Most importantly, she loved her family greatly and enjoyed sharing her passion for performance arts with each of them. She was unique, irreplaceable, and well respected, and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her sweet spirit and creative nature will remain in the many memories of her cherished friends and family until they meet her again.
The Krogsgard family expresses their deepest gratitude to the care provided by St. Catherine’s Hospice.
