Judge Thomas Wesley Tanner's Obituary
Retired Chief Judge, Louisiana 22nd Judicial District Court Thomas Wesley Tanner died on Wednesday, June 25, 2008.
Son of the late John W. Tanner and Edna Brumfield Tanner. Beloved husband of 34 years to Melanie Justice Tanner. Survived by two daughters, Elizabeth A. Tanner and husband, Ian M. Edwards of Slidell, LA; and Susan A. Tanner and husband, Andrew H. Hanson of Mandeville, LA; three son’s, Thomas W. Tanner, Jr. and wife, Ellen, of Baton Rouge, LA; Walter D. Tanner and wife, Jamie, of Orlando, FL; and Justin T. Tanner, of Covington, LA. Brother of Richard Tanner and wife, Cheryl, of Covington, LA; Julia Tanner Beyl of Covington, LA; Chloe Tanner Chandler, and husband, Jim, of Utica, MS; and Claudia Tanner Allums of Denham Springs, LA; and the late Wendell Tanner, John Tanner and Steve Tanner. Also survived by ten grandchildren: Paul, Megan and Katherine Tanner; J.T. Tanner; Wesley, Molly and Lindsey Edwards; Cecilia, Aubrey and Amelie Hanson. Also numerous nieces and nephews.
Judge Tanner was born in New Orleans, LA, March 22, 1931. He was currently serving as Ad Hoc Judge in the Louisiana 18th, 21st and 22nd Judicial District Courts appointed by the Louisiana Supreme Court. Former 1st Circuit Court of Appeals Ad Hoc Judge appointed by the Louisiana Supreme Court. Judge Tanner was a U.S. Army Veteran, 82nd Airborne, a graduate of Ponchatoula High School, Southeastern Louisiana University, and Louisiana State University Law Center. He was past president of the LSU Law Center student body, past president of the Louisiana District Judges Association, former Chairman of the Law Enforcement Commission, current Vice Chairman of the Law Enforcement Commission, first President of the Slidell Chamber of Commerce, and an avid LSU sports fan.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc., 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 27, 2008 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time.
Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.
