Juanita Steed Jolissaint's Obituary
Juanita Steed Jolissaint, loving wife and mother whose unconditional love and unwavering devotion was the glue that held her family together. “Nita” will always be remembered by her family and friends for her generosity and grace and for her competitive nature. She was not only a Bridge Life Master, but also a “life master” at many endeavors. She loved to crochet and was a consummate seamstress who, for many years, tirelessly created treasured heirlooms for her family and friends.
Nita was a native of Greensburg, Louisiana, a resident of New Orleans and Slidell and since 1998 a resident of Mandeville. She graduated from St. Mary’s Dominican College with a B.A. in English and received a Master’s Degree in Business from Tulane University. For many years she was a beloved school teacher who taught English, grammar, typing, and shorthand in the Orleans public school system at Warren Easton, Nicholls and Abramson High Schools. She also taught business letter writing at UNO. Nita was quite the advocate of good grammar.
The beloved wife of the late Alphonse Rene “Chic” Jolissaint, Jr., her memory will live on through her three sons and their spouses: Charles and wife Diane Johnson Jolissaint, of Soquel, California; Al and wife Ann Dickey Jolissaint of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and Mark and wife Theresa Trapani of Mandeville. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, November 1, 2014, at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 4499 Sharp Rd. Mandeville, LA 70448. Visitation at the church will begin at 2:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 3:00. Interment will be private at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church -- for the benefit of the children.
