Joy Elizabeth "Libby D" Simmons' Obituary
Joy Elizabeth “Libby D” Simmons entered eternal rest on Monday, February 2, 2026, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Libby was born on August 12, 1952, in Port Sulphur, Louisiana, to Evelie and Thelma Delahoussaye. She lived in Port Sulphur until August of 2005, when she married the love of her life, Jerry E. Simmons, and moved to Rockport, Texas. Libby and Jerry were married on June 17, 2005, and remained inseparable until her final breath.
Libby was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and a friend to all. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved deeply. She was a strong woman of faith and family, and there was nothing she would not sacrifice for her only son, whom she loved more than life itself.
Known by friends and family as the life of the party, Libby had a way of lighting up every room she entered. Her home was always open, especially during the holidays, which she loved to decorate. She never met a stranger, striking up conversations wherever she went and somehow knowing someone everywhere she traveled.
Libby was preceded in death by her parents, Evelie J. Delahoussaye and Thelma Sonnier Delahoussaye; her siblings, Michel Delahoussaye and James “Tracy” Delahoussaye; her grandson, Charleston Delahoussaye; and her brother-in-law, Albert Richard.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jerry E. Simmons; her son, Dustin J. Delahoussaye (Shannon); her stepson, Jeremy P. Simmons (Marly); her stepdaughter, Kara J. Simmons (Travis); her sisters, Brenda Euper (Teddy), Patricia Richard, and Vicky Everage; her sister-in-law, Thecla Delahoussaye; and her cherished grandchildren, Easton, Caroline, Vivienne, Kaitlyn, Emily, Parish, and Adeline. She is also survived by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins who adored her.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 from 9:00 AM until the Funeral Mass begins at 11:00 AM, at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, Louisiana. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Reception Celebrating Libby’s life immediately following.
