Joseph Patrick Kosofsky's Obituary
Joseph Patrick Kosofsky, affectionately known as Joe, Big Joe, and New York Joe, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, at the age of 67.
Born on November 11, 1958, in Manhattan, New York, Joseph was the son of Patricia Thomas and Lawrence Kosofsky.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Geralyn; his two sons, Joseph and Mark (Fallon); and his cherished grandchildren, Dean and Emma. He is also survived by his brother, David (Penny); his sisters, Allison Harrison (Scott), Kimberly Kosofsky, and Irene Rodriguez (Jason); his sisters-in-law, Maryellen (Joe) and Kathleen (Paul); his brother-in-law, Richard (Amelia); and his aunt, Irene Southworth.
He leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, including Patricia, Paul, Paige (David), Nick, Andrea (Steve), Renee, Christopher, and Joseph.
Joseph was also a proud great-uncle to Kate, Karis “Applesauce,” Daphne, Kasey, Declan, Paul Matterson, and soon-to-be-born Phillip.
He is further survived by his cousins Veronica, Christine, Paul, and Guy LaVenia (Sandra), Donnie, Fred, Douglas, Alyce, and Hope Carnley, Robert and Tommy Arroyo, and Alfred Aguinaldo; as well as his second cousins Alexis Mulligan (Logan), Joseph and Jack LaVenia.
Joseph was preceded in death by his grandmother, Irene Williams; his parents, Lawrence Kosofsky and Patricia Thomas; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Joan Turk; his aunts, Barbara, Alyce, and Betty; his uncles, Alfred, Al, and Guy; his Uncle Andy LaVenia; and his cousin, Faith Carnley.
Joseph was blessed with a large extended family and many dear friends, too numerous to mention, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
A native New Yorker, Joseph proudly called St. Tammany Parish home for more than ten years.
Joseph enjoyed a long and successful career in the baking industry. He was employed with Entenmann’s, where he rose to the position of Supervisor of the Twist Line and was active in the bakery union. He retired with pride after many years of dedicated service to the industry.
Later in life, Joe returned to Louisiana, where he embraced the things he loved most. He enjoyed hunting, motorcycles, rock music, and spending time with family and friends at social gatherings. Joe had a generous spirit and was always willing to help those in need. He proudly supported numerous charitable organizations and was known as a loyal friend to many.
Joe also took great pride in serving on the board of his homeowners association and found comfort and strength as he renewed his faith in Christ at St. Peter Catholic Church in Covington.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Monday, June 8, 2026 at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until service time.
