John Carl Coats' Obituary
John Carl Coats, inventor, king of dad jokes, beloved father, jokester, and curmudgeon, at the age of 86, entered eternal rest peacefully on Monday morning, January 22, 2024, at Lakeview Regional Medical Center of Covington surrounded by his adoring loving family. He was born in Hunt County, Texas on August 31, 1937, to John Raymond Coats and Lois Lee Green Coats.
He is survived by his wife Derman Erdem Coats of 59 years, his adoring children Teresa Harris (spouse to Roger Harris), Denice Crowell (spouse to Conrad Crowell), Matthew Coats, and Julia Coats. John was the proud grandfather of Jason Harris, Sean Crowell, Laura Harris- Zinser, and Courtney Crowell, and great grandfather of Elizabeth Zinser, Nathaniel Zinser, Zander Zinser, Vanessa Hamilton, Carlton Hamilton, Hezekiah Hamilton, and Franklin Crowell. John will be dearly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends, whom he dearly loved.
John was preceded in death by parents John and Lois Coats.
A proud resident of Covington for over 34 years. John graduated from Ray High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. After high school he attended Delmar Community College shortly in Corpus Christi, Texas. John began his professional career as an electrical engineer. John was successful and well respected as a resident from Dallas, Texas to Istanbul, Turkey to Covington, Louisiana.
John was loving, funny, sarcastic, compassionate, and most of all a very caring person to all. He enjoyed spending time outdoors driving his Model A Ford. However, his true passion was spending time with his loving family and friends. John was unique and irreplaceable, well respected and liked, and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. His jovial spirit and tender nature will remain in the many memories of his cherished friends and family until they meet him again.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington Louisiana, 70433 on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 3:00 PM with visitation beginning at 2:00 PM until service time. Interment will follow services in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery 2280 W 21st Avenue, Covington, Louisiana, 70433.
