JoAnn Davi Creech's Obituary
Our beloved JoAnn Davi Creech, went to her eternal rest on October 31, 2023. An only child, she was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Joseph Davi, and by the love of her life, her husband of 57 years Gilbert Creech. She will be remembered and celebrated by her adored children- Kristen Creech Punch (David), Steven Creech, Elizabeth Creech Brakel (John) and Erin Creech Hassinger (Timothy), and the true lights of her life, her brilliant and talented grandchildren- Raven Creech (Brian Gibson, engaged), Alexander Punch (Quinn), Katherine “Belle” Punch, Timothy “Will” Hassinger, Avery Hassinger, Jack Hassinger, And John Michael Brakel. She is also survived by many beloved cousins and family.
Jo Ann was a lifelong New Orleanian, and attended St. Louis Cathedral Grammar School, Academy of Holy Angels High School and St. Mary’s Dominican College, where she received her degree in education. She loved teaching and loved her students. She taught the longest at Resurrection of Our Lord and Etienne De Bore Elementary Schools in New Orleans East. But more importantly she was an amazing Mother and Mere. She went on camping trips even though she hated the outdoors and taught the scout troop how to make French Toast over a campfire. She attended too many dancing recitals, pine box derbies, masses where her kids were either serving as an altar boy or singing in the choir and rode along with high school cheerleaders as they marched in Mardi Gras parades. She was a fabulous Mom.
She and Gil retired to a bucolic home in Covington, filled with family and laughter and love. They loved spending time playing endless games of Scrabble and trying to hit the winning scores on Jeopardy. She reveled in her grandchildren and spoiled them immensely - that was a Mere’s job, she would say. Her grandkids loved attending “Camp Creech” every summer- with tents set up in the house, movie nights, roller skating, fishing in the pond, learning about Egypt and fossils and Geology, and having their nails painted from her big box of polishes. Her weekend “field trips” were legendary and greatly anticipated by all. Her sharp wit and swift humor will be missed greatly, her love of reading, 70s music, geology, Broadway show tunes and vintage movies will live on with her family.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and nurses who provided such amazing care. The staff of Magnolia Home Health, the incredible nurses and staff at Forest Manor Nursing Home especially her daughter Elizabeth who loved having the privilege of taking care of her, and Heidi, Tara, Pam and Kelsey, Mrs. Diane for the sweet care and conversations. Special gratitude to Mary and the staff at Eagan Hospice and Chris and the team at St. Catherine’s Hospice.
