Born in Lake Providence, Louisiana on June 18, 1936, Hugh was a proud resident of Alexandria, Louisiana for over 25 years and Mandeville, Louisiana for the next 25 years. He graduated from Lake Providence High School in 1954. After high school he attended Louisiana Tech University and earned a B.S. degree. He graduated from LSU School of Medicine, New Orleans in1961 and completed his General Practice residency at Lafayette Charity Hospital, Lafayette, LA in 1963. Hugh proudly served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Antarctica and then Pensacola, FL where he met his dear sweet wife on a blind date. Hugh and Dianne returned to New Orleans where he completed a residency in psychiatry at LSU Medical School, New Orleans. His professional career as a psychiatrist extended from 1968 to 2016 where he served many at Central Louisiana State Hospital, Charity Hospital, the Veterans Affair Medical Center in Pineville, LA, and numerous mental health clinics throughout the state of Louisiana.
Hugh’s passion for helping and serving others extended beyond his professional career. He dedicated his adult life to assisting others, serving as a mentor to those in need.
He enjoyed watching LSU and Saints football with his cats. He was an avid reader, golfer, and exerciser as well as a detailed note taker, using 3x5 cards to the fullest extent possible. He enjoyed the ministry of music and sang in his Church choir as a bass for 25 years. However, his true passion was spending time with his loving family and friends. Hugh was unique and irreplaceable, well respected and liked. Hugh’s favorite saying “I’ll leave it with ya” is fitting for those who knew and loved him and will surely miss him.
The King family expresses their deepest gratitude to the outstanding care provided by Christwood Skilled Nursing facility and St. Tammany Hospice.
