Howard Bowman Kenyon II's Obituary
Howard “Boone” Kenyon, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025. Born on January 7, 1943, in Houston, Texas, Boone was the first son born into a growing family where he developed a lifelong love of music, often singing and playing guitar with his many siblings. He was known for his warmth, generosity, and outgoing personality which left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
Boone attended Allen Military School in Bryan, Texas, and later graduated from Forest City High School in Forest City, Arkansas, in 1960. He went on to attend Tulane University and ultimately earned a degree in English from Louisiana State University.
In 1978, Boone founded B&K Construction Company drawing from his experience working for his father’s dredging company. What began as a small subdivision construction business in Baton Rouge soon led to new opportunities, leading B&K into water and sewer line installation, structural concrete work, levee construction, and deep excavation work. Under Boone’s leadership and vision, B&K became a cornerstone of the New Orleans construction industry, playing a vital role in the region’s flood control infrastructure and major civil engineering projects. His entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering commitment to excellence shaped the company’s success and ensured its long-term impact.
Beyond his professional achievements, Boone cherished his family above all else. He is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah West Kenyon; his daughter, Heather Kenyon Andrews; his beloved grandchildren, Brooke and Luke Andrews; his sisters, Anne K. Thevenot and Lynn K. Hood; and his brother, Leonard Kenyon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marian Young Kenyon and Howard Blackburn Kenyon Jr., as well as his sisters, Katherine Kenyon and Claire Kenyon Sadler, and his brother, Bruce Kenyon.
On his wife’s side of the family, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Nora West; his sisters-in-law, Delaine Soileau, Brenda West, and Belinda Rogers; their husbands, Gary Soileau, Kevin Morris, and Jeff Rogers; and Jennifer Soileau. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Clifford West and his brother-in-law, Cliff West.
Boone found joy in the simple pleasures of life—strumming his guitar, relaxing on his boat, sharing stories, and spending time with his loved ones. He was a man who thrived on hard work, often saying his favorite thing was getting up and going to the office each day. His biggest accomplishment, however, was not just the success of B&K but the strong and loving family he built.
Boone Kenyon’s legacy will live on through the company he created, the family he loved, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and generosity. He will be deeply missed.
