Hezzie Donice "H.D." Blackwell's Obituary
Hezzie Donice “H.D.” Blackwell age 83, a life long resident of Folsom, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, May 27, 2009.
H.D. was married to Peggy Fitzmorris Blackwell for 57 years. They were lifelong companions and best friends. Together they raised 5 children, Sandra LeBlanc (husband, Bobby), Deborah Varnado (husband, David), Tim Blackwell (wife, Rosanne), Elizabeth Willie (husband, Reggie) and Patricia Foster (husband, John). Grandfather to Jason and Bryan LeBlanc, Bo and Beth Blackwell, Nicholas Varnado, Jarrad and Jordan Willie and Jacob Foster. Great-grandfather to Abigail LeBlanc, Connelly and Blaise Blackwell, Deaton LeBlanc and Madelyn Willie. Also survived by one brother, June “Coot” Blackwell; sisters, Evelyn Pittman and Jewett Gay. He was preceded in death by his father, Fleet Blackwell; his mother, Tera Wascom; brothers, Jake, Claude and Fleet, Jr.; sisters, Vernie and Edna Blackwell.
H.D. and Peggy founded Blackwell’s Nursery, which they successfully ran until they retired. H.D. was known throughout St. Tammany Parish for his knowledge of the rich history of the Folsom Community. Full of a lifetime of memories, he willingly shared his stories with those who would listen. H.D. never met a stranger, and that’s what made him a man that everyone loved. Because of the legacy that he has left behind, his stories will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, as well as the hearts of others that have passed through his life. He will be greatly missed by his many family members and his extended family and friends.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 11345 St. John Church Rd., Folsom, LA 704373 with visitation on Friday evening at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington, LA 70433 beginning at 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM and at St. John the Baptist Church on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until Mass time.
Interment will follow in Blackwell Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Lakeshore Hospice, 2659 North Causeway Blvd., Mandeville, LA 70471.
