When I was just 16 years old Dr. Young rescued me from a terrible start with contact lenses. With his expertise and encouragement I quickly found success and comfort wearing those lenses. Now 63 years down the road I am still wearing contact lenses because of him. He was my definition of the true southern gentleman (even though he was born in the North). With his demeanor and quick wit he was a role model for me as I moved through my teens and beyond. Always nattily attired in his crisp Haspel pincord or seersucker suit he inspired me to get a pincord suit of my own which he got a big kick out of when I wore it to his office one day for my eye exam. Even though I never met Susan or Peggy they were extremely lucky ladies to have shared so many years with such a wonderful person. He could charm the birds out of the trees and I can’t imagine him ever having a harsh word. He had a long and meaningful life and I hope that somewhere sometime our paths will cross again. I was privileged and thankful for having him as my eye doctor for so many years. I am sure he’s in the best place he could possibly be in now.
