Gary Allen Mitchell's Obituary
Gary Allen Mitchell of Covington, LA passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020. He was born on October 1, 1952 in Bogalusa, LA to the late Herbert Ray Mitchell and the late Frances (Tullos) Mitchell.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Judith “Judy” (McLain) Mitchell; his daughter Jessica “Lynnette” Mitchell Nielson; and his granddaughter Alexis Leigh Nielson. He is also survived by his brother Ronald “Ronnie” Mitchell (Debbie), as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Gary grew up in Algiers, LA before moving to the north shore as a young man. He later graduated from Covington High School. Following graduation, he joined the Louisiana Army National Guard in the spring of 1971, in which he proudly served for 6 years. Gary was a Bus Driver with St. Tammany Parish School Board for 29 years. He took great pride in taking care of the children that rode his bus every day. In his spare time, and during his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Gary was highly respected and adored by everyone that knew him, and will be greatly missed by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a wake at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 beginning at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at 10:00 AM until service time. Funeral services officiated by Dr. Waylon Bailey at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home on December 31, 2020 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow the services in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Covington, LA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Mitchell may be made to The American Heart Association.
