I had no idea what to expect when I first met Gary. I know Julia well, knew Gary worked at Chevron, but our paths had yet to cross. Cue one fantastically awkward family photo later and we were tromping around the Getty Villa and chatting up the owners of a biker bar in Malibu.
Gary was generous with his smile when he saw you and with his time if you asked. I am blessed to have him in my memory and my life.
Sorry to hear of your loss. I met Gary and Susan while enrolled at UNO. We went skiing together with UNO's UCP trip during college Ski Week in Steamboat Springs, Co where I met my wife, Cindy. I regret that we didn't stay in touch with one another.

Debi and I are so deeply saddened hearing of the loss of your son. It does not matter at what age someone loses a child, the pain and suffering will be the same. My sweet Debi knows all too well as she lost her son at the age of 21.
It sounds like Gary was a good man, a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed. I believe in my heart when your son walks through that narrow door to heaven he will be welcomed with open arms.
It is so sad that having the same blood flowing through our veins, we have never been close. Not too long ago, I was thinking of your and Betty Ann's families and remembering how nice Betty Ann always treated me.

What can I truly say about my Uncle Gary that most of you don’t already know.
This man has helped to shape the person that I am today. In my nearly 42 years since my birth, he has always treated me like a son and I looked up to him as if he was my father.
There was not a single time that he wasn’t there for me when I needed simple advice, a friend to joke with, a man that pushed me to always want to better myself and those around me or just simply someone to sit there with me while we discussed so many countless memories of past experiences.
He left this world much too early as I always wanted to see how proud he’d be of the man I have become. I wanted nothing more than for him and Susan to hold my baby girl for the first time when she comes into this world in July. I know he would’ve been so overwhelmed with joy for us.
Life isn’t always fair or easy but when Gary was there for me somehow all of the problems just seemed to drift away.
The thing that I am going to miss the most is just hearing his voice or getting that one last hug from him.
He’ll always have a special place in my heart and memories for there is far too many that we had shared.
I’ll always love you and I’ll continue searching for your guidance until the day we meet again.
