Freddy was a favorite of mine. I miss him in my heart. When I was a new Delta pilot in New Orleans it was a real treat to get to fly with Freddy Dykes. He was a natural pilot with a smooth, calm way of flying and leading us on a wonderful experience. You could always count on his ability and integrity.
When I was a young DC-8 copilot, Cap'n Freddy took a lot of time and really taught me a lot. He was a fine man and it was a privilege to have shared a cockpit. I know the landing on his last flight will be a good one. Tommy Patton
Freddie was one of the best! Working with him for many years has brought many fond memories of the Delta Air Lines of another time. I am certain that he will be sadly missed.
I will be out of town on Monday, so will miss the services. I am grieved at your dad's passing; having known him since childhood, he seemed the eternal optimist, always finding good in every turn of events. I'll miss our visits at the drug or grocery store, and while walking in the neighborhood. God Bless and comfort you all on your Dad's passing.
TO FRED'S FAMILY -
I KNOW THAT I MET SOME OF YOU FROM TIME TO TIME AT MY RESTAURANT BEFORE I RETIRED. MY APPOLOGIES FOR NOT REMEMBERING EVERONE. I JUST WANT TO OFFER MY SYMPATHY FOR FRED'S PASSING. HE WAS A TRUE OLD SCHOOL GENTLEMEN THAT I GREW TO RESPECT AND ADMIRE OVER THE YEARS. I ALWAYS LOOKED FORWARD TO HIS VISITS AND APPRECIATED THE TIME THAT WE SPENT TOGETHER. I KNOW THAT YOU ALL WILL MISS HIM BUT I HOPE THAT YOU TOO WILL APPRECIATE AND CHERISH THE MOMENTS AND YEARS THAT YOU HAD HIM WITH YOU.
WITH DEEPEST SYMPATHY,

Fred was my favorite travelling companion during my FO/SO career. He was a great pilot, truly professional, one of the world's finest gentlemen and my friend. We will all miss him.
I knew Capt. Dykes through my father, who drove to Memphis with Freddie in 1945 to hire on with C&S. George always referred to Freddie as one of the 'true gentlemen' on the airline, and my acquaintance with him after he retired bore that out.
Freddy was a fine fellow and a great pilot. I enjoyed flying with him, and wish him happy landings in the Hereafter. My sincere sympathy and condolences to his loved ones.
Freddie was a great guy and I really enjoyed flying with him. He will be missed.
