Fr. Dominic Richard Braud's Obituary
Father Dominic Richard Braud, O.S.B., monk of Saint Joseph Abbey in Saint Benedict, Louisiana, died at the abbey on January 1, 2009. He was 80 years old.
Son of the late Earl N. Braud, and Juanita Philips Braud, Father Dominic was born April 30, 1928, in New Orleans, LA. He made his profession as a Benedictine Monk of Saint Joseph Abbey on August 11, 1956. He was ordained to the priesthood May 27, 1961. He celebrated his Golden Jubilee of Monastic Profession in 2006.
He is survived by his brother, Robert P. Braud of Parkersburg, W. Va., and two sisters, Elizabeth A. Carlini of Metairie, LA., and Peggy Boyd of Orlando, Florida and nieces and nephews.
Father Dominic was a Professor in St. Joseph Seminary, Novice Master, Choir Director and composer of very fine Liturgical music sung throughout the country. He was also manager of the Christian Life Center, Subprior, Guestmaster and for many years the Director of the Oblates. He was a talented singer and taught the community how to joyfully praise the Lord through his life and through song.
Father Dominic’s Body will be received at Saint Joseph Abbey on Tuesday, January 6 at 5:15 P.M. followed by the singing of Vespers.
The Funeral Vigil will be held at 7:15 P.M. in the Abbey Church.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 7 at 11:15 A.M., at St. Joseph Abbey followed by burial in the Abbey Cemetery.
