Evelyn Ruth Cook's Obituary
Evelyn Kirkland Cook passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2007.
She was the devoted wife of Norman C. Cook for over 60 years and beloved mother of N. Craig Cook and wife Jeanne Cook, and Carolyn Cook Gardner and husband Dr. Philip A. Gardner, all of Mandeville.
A native of New Orleans, she made her home and raised her family in Metairie before moving to Covington ten years ago to be close to her children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Purvis L. and Allie Kirkland, and her brothers Charles and Paul L. “Sonny” Kirkland. In addition to her children, she is survived by her grandchildren, Philip, Jr., Jonathan, Matthew, William and Elizabeth Gardner; Jennifer Cook Vaccaro (Nick) , N. Craig Cook Jr. (Jessica), and Ryan Cook, and her great-grandchildren, Nicolas, Jr. and Emily Vaccaro. She is also survived by her sisters, Betty McRevy (Jimmy) of Metairie and Martha Brigman (Johnnie) of Huntsville, AL, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Covington and was active with Young at Heart. She enjoyed traveling and entertaining in her home and was known for her warm hospitality, fun-loving personality, quick sense of humor, loving heart for her extended family and open kitchen.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2007 at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Covington, 16333 Hwy 1085, Covington, LA 70433, with visitation beginning at 2:00 PM at the church prior to the service. Interment in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to STARC (St. Tammany Association of Retarded Citizens), 1541 St. Ann Place, Slidell, LA 70460. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc., 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 entrusted with the arrangements.
