My husband Merlyn and I taught at Higgins High during part of Elaine's leadership as principal.. I remember Elaine and I as teachers at Marrero High school. Now my last rememberances are the lunches we had with other retired Higgins teachers. I could share a book of fond memories but this I will always remember. I hadn't seen Elaine in many years but attended one of the lunches. I walked up to Elaine to reintroduce myself and before I could say a word she said, " Rosemary it is so good to see you". She will be missed.
To the Family of Elaine Duvic,
As a member of the Inner Wheel Club of St. Thomas (United States Virgin Islands) for over 35 years, I have had the joy of having Elaine as my friend. In my heart she will be remembered as a gentle and caring person who was a mentor to all that came in contact with her. She was always genuinely interested in people whose lives she touched by her gentle, caring demeanor and her faith in them. She encouraged us to to share our talents by taking on leadership roles in Inner Wheel.
I wish you a little time to relive your best memories and balance the tears from your loss with joy, laughter and the the special times you will never forget in your lifetime with Elaine.
In Inner Wheel Friendship and Love to a beautiful family,
Sue Robinson

Denise Schumann Lade. (Destin, Fl)
For my childhood scouting friends, Amy and Roger, my heartfelt condolences. It was wonderful knowing your mom in so many aspects of my life — from family friend, teacher and principal, scout, and as a role model in my career as a biology teacher. She had the utmost respect of my parents; my dad spoke highly of her for as long as I can remember. I ran into her several times when escorting my students from Lake Charles to Tulane for Science Olympiad competitions years ago, and was so pleased she recognized and remembered me there. What a wonderful lady! Anne Barry Graves (we were scouts, lifeguards at Mel Orr pool, and classmates in a few biology classes at Northwestern State University [Roger]. My Dad was Fred Barry, Times-Picayune journalist).
The luckiest thing that ever happened to me as a new teacher was to fall into Elaine Duvic's magnetic force at Higgins. Her encouragement and leadership gave me the confidence to learn the teaching job, and to keep learning it, and to teach others. Her force rippled out, reaching infinite numbers, and the ripples go on.
Ann Nunn, Higgins teacher 72-99
Miss Elaine was my Girl Scout Troop Leader and a wonderful example of what a woman could accomplish. She managed a career in education with the other full-time jobs of spouse and mother. She will be missed by many! Gerri Ferniz Sexsion
Mrs. Duvic was a brilliant and gentle soul. When I was a student in her honors physics class my senior year at West Jefferson High School, 1965-66, our family faced a dire health crisis and the explosive deaths of close family friends.. Her support and encouragement helped me wade through the waters of these difficult challenges. She modeled not only great teaching but also how to be a caring human being. My sympathies to all of her familiy and friends. Her memory sustains us.
Rev. Charlene Belsom Zellmer, Bethesda MD
Mrs. Duvic was the best principal anyone could have asked for! I loved working for her as a young teacher and I eventually over the years realized that I really cared for her personally as well, because not only was she exceedingly competent , she really wanted the best for her school, her faculty, and her students. My sincere condolences to the family. Cheryl Goudeau, French teacher at Higgins from 1968-1992.
