Edna Burmaster Boutian's Obituary
Edna Burmaster Boutian passed away peacefully on April 3, 2024, due to Alzheimer's, in Ponchatoula, LA, at the age of 72. She was born on March 2, 1952, in New Orleans, LA to Albert Charles Burmaster and Wilhelmina Bernhardine Russell Burmaster. Edna married her childhood friend and love, Hollis Joseph Boutian, in July of 1971. They were married for 49 years until his passing in December of 2020. She was a resident of Belle Chasse, LA until 1997 and resided in Amite, LA for 25 years.
After graduating from River Oaks Academy in Belle Chasse in 1970, she worked as a proof operator at Delta Bank & Trust. She left the bank to stay home and be a full-time Mom and homemaker to her two daughters. She was a very creative person and she used her creativity in many of her hobbies and talents. If it involved creativity, Mom was a shining star. She loved music and singing and dancing. She was an avid cake artist, photographer, videographer, party planner, reunion coordinator, choir Mom, family historian, and a writer. One of her biggest dreams was to write a children's book one day. Though she never fulfilled that dream, she did become a columnist in the early 90's for The Plaquemines Gazette in Belle Chasse. She loved getting out in the community and letting others know what was happening in and around their community. She also was a successful business owner of Angelic Scentsations Soy Candles for a short period of time.
Edna loved to love on people. She had one of the biggest hearts and was a very caring and compassionate person. God, Jesus, and her family were the most important in her life. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and volunteered as a faithful servant as often as she could. Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, Psalms 119:105---"Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." This biblical verse means that God's word is a lamp that shows us how to live and walk; like a Spiritual compass. It illuminates the path for each step and keeps us from missteps and wrong turns. She always tried to live her life by the word of God and she always passed that on to her children and grandchildren.
Edna was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hollis Joseph Boutian, her loving parents, Albert and Wilhelmina Burmaster, her beautiful sisters, Shirley B. Boutian and Barbara B. Alexander.
Edna is survived by and will be deeply missed by her daughters, Jennifer Lynn Boutian Sevin(Keith Sevin), Holly Faye Boutian Raiford(Jeffrey Raiford), and her 4 precious grandchildren, Matthew Keith Sevin, Grant Michael Sevin, Tyler Joseph Anthony Sevin, and Mya Leona Raiford. She is also survived by her siblings, Doris B. Klein, Albert C. Burmaster, Jr. and Audrey B. Joy. She also leaves behind her Godchildren, Susan J. Jones and Anthony R. Arellano, many nieces and nephews and her beloved poodle, Reilly, who will miss her dearly.
Thank you to her nurses and aides from Hospice of Baton Rouge for the excellent care that was provided to our Mom. Also, thank you to the many who have prayed, sent messages, cards, meals, and followed along in her journey through Alzheimer's on her social media page.
