Dewey Dale Matranga's Obituary
Dewey Dale Matranga, age 73, of Abita Springs, died on Saturday, October 28, 2017 after a short illness. He was born in Baton Rouge to Rhoda Lindsay Matranga and Raymond Matranga and lived most of his early life in Abita Springs. He attended St Peter's School and Covington High School, both in Covington. Dewey was in the Army National Guard. He attended the Operating Room Technician course at Charity Hospital and worked as an OR technician in New Orleans, Slidell and at University Hospitals in Cleveland OH where he lived for several decades before returning to Louisiana. For a short time he worked as a dialysis reuse technician in Hammond. For the past thirteen years he was the Sacristan at St Peter's Church in Covington.
He is survived by his sisters Elizabeth (Betty) Matranga MacDonald of Whispering Pines, NC and Raye Matranga Dirks of Hillsboro, KS and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 E. 19th Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 11:00 AM with visitation at church on Thursday beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Abita Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Dewey to be made to St. Peter Catholic Church. E.J.
