Curtis Reed Jr.'s Obituary
Curtis Reed Jr. passed away on the morning of June 1, 2023 at St Tammany Parish Hospital, at the age of 78. He was a resident of Covington, Louisiana.
Curtis Reed Jr. was born to Curtis and Yvonne Reed on December 9, 1944, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He received his Bachelors, Masters, +30 and Specialist degrees from Southeastern Louisiana University.
He took a sabbatical from teaching in 1978 to enroll at Mississippi State University in pursuit of his doctorate of education degree. He graduated from Mississippi State with his doctorate May 13, 1983. He taught 33 years in the St. Tammany Parish School System as an industrial arts teacher at Covington High School and was known to many as “Doc Reed”. After retiring as an educator, he then worked for Lockheed Martin Corporation until his final retirement. In his later years, he greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren by picking them up from school and attending their sporting events weekly.
Curtis Jr. is survived by his son, Curtis Reed III, daughter-in-law, Ashley Reed, and four grandchildren: Kylie, Madison, Brayden and Beau Reed. He is also survived by his siblings, John Reed, Alvin Reed, and Yvonne Reed. He was pre-deceased in death by his father, Curtis Reed Sr, mother, Yvonne Solar Reed, brothers, Robert Reed, Douglas Reed and Charles Reed, and sister Ollive Maxey.
Curtis was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church Covington where he loved attending his Hollaway Connect Bible study group, ushering, and attending church services.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation for Curtis on Monday, June 12, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at The Chapel at First Baptist Church Covington, 16054 Murphy Road, Covington, LA 70433, followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Following the services, Curtis will be laid to rest in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum, 2280 W 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433.
