Connie Hulsey-Shepherd's Obituary
Connie Hulsey Shepherd, was born 14 July 1939, in Washington DC, the daughter of Caspar Thompson (from Maryland) and Doris A. Birkhead (from Virginia). She has lived in Covington LA since Fall 1968. Connie dedicated her life to selfless service to others. After caring for her mother together with Hospice care in Jacksonville FL, she started Hospice of St. Tammany in 1986. In 1993, she received an award which would become the annual Connie M. Hulsey ‘Angels Among Us’ award given by Hospice of St. Tammany. This award, a service award, recognizes the top volunteer in service to others in this community. Connie also was a successful business owner (Northlake Sitter Care), which was involved in caregiving for the elderly and infirmed for over 25 years, until October 2015, when she could no longer handle the rigors of the business due to her failing health.
Connie passed from this life to the next, Sunday, 7 Jan 2018. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Raymond Shepherd, her two sons, Dean Hulsey (and his wife Dr. Tania Levi), and Joel Hulsey. She is grandmother to 5 grandchildren, Jacob Dean Hulsey, Elisabeth Hulsey, Josh Hulsey, Jennifer Hulsey, Sarah Hulsey, and is great grandmother to Cashton, Gannon, Ryder and Madelaine. Connie is also stepmother to Cheryl Mathewson (nee Shepherd), and step-grandmother to Michael Rosenberger, Amber Bryan, Heather Krolik, and April Chennault. Connie is step-greatgrandmother to Lilith, Autumn, Rhea, Skylar and Veda. Following a private viewing for family and close friends, a memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Covington, 26 January 2018 at 10AM. All who knew, loved and were touched by the life of Connie are invited to attend. Connie has asked that she be remembered by donations to the Hospice Foundation of the South, 501 Robert Blvd, Slidell LA 70458.
