Dear Pat and Vandercook family,
Though it’s been years since we have been close, I remember Charlie fondly from our time together in the youth group at Gentilly Baptist Church in New Orleans. I remember our trips to Ridgecrest, our Youth Sundays, and our leading worship at the Rescue Mission just off Canal Street in New Orleans. I remember Charlie and his Dad taking us down to the docks to sing Christmas carols to ship crews who had not yet disembarked, or our having them school us in the fine arts of soccer when we took them to a park for some exercise and friendly competition. God used such experiences with the Vandercooks to help call me into a lifetime of musical ministry. What I remember most about Charlie was his ready smile, his easy going sense of humor, his love for our Lord, and his already budding love for a beautiful young lady in the group named Pat. The years caused us to practice social distancing long before it became a requirement, but I am most thankful to have known Charles and his family. I look forward to our family reunion one day in heaven. I am pausing on this Saturday morning to ask that the peace, power, purpose, and provision of God’s presence (sorry, I’ve been around Baptist preachers too long not to think in terms of alliteration) be obvious to each of you. Prayers and blessings, with much thanksgiving!
