Carlos A. Calix's Obituary
Carlos A. Calix, on June 26, 2006, surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his beloved wife Sandra Somoza Calix; son Carlos, Jr. (Danielle); daughters Rebecca C. Hawkshead (John J.) and Sandy C. Brown. He is the brother of Marco, Adela and Gloria Calix, Julieta C. Estrada, and Liliana C. Portillo. He is also survived by four grandchildren: John J. Hawkshead, IV, Maggie Calix and Kayla and Isabella Brown. He was 63 years old. At the time of his death, Mr. Calix served as Executive Vice President, Partner/Principal, Director and Corporate Secretary of Krebs, LaSalle, LeMieux Consultants, Inc. (“KLL”), formerly J.J. Krebs & Sons, Inc. His contributions throughout 40 years of service were enormous, not only to KLL, but also to the community and to the many individuals with whom he worked. He was treasured for his unfailing professionalism, good humor and generosity of spirit. Mr. Calix emigrated in 1963 from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, where he attended the Engineering School of Honduras, C.A. He joined J.J. Krebs & Sons, Inc. as an engineering technician in 1965, with his friend-for-life Shelby P. LaSalle, Jr. His great love and primary focus was land development engineering, where he became an invaluable member of the KLL team. Mr. Calix’s signature projects include English Turn, Money Hill, Lakeshore Estates, Belair, Belle Terre, Oak Harbor, Willow Ridge and many others. Among Mr. Calix’s contributions to the business community was his recent service as 2005 President and 2004 Chapter Delegate of the New Orleans Chapter of the American Public Works Association. He also was an active member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club, among many other organizations. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend Funeral Mass on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 11:00 AM from Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 316 Lafitte St., Mandeville, LA 70448. Visiting hours at the Church will begin at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Mandeville City Cemetery.
